Statement on Incrementality

We believe that every adopted person deserves unrestricted access to their original birth certificate—no exceptions, no delays.

While we understand that incremental reform is sometimes proposed as a strategic step forward, we’ve seen firsthand how these partial measures often prolong injustice. They create arbitrary tiers of access, leaving many adoptees behind and reinforcing the idea that our rights can be granted—or withheld—based on criteria no other citizens are asked to meet.

We believe adoptee equality means just that: equality. Full, equal access to one’s own vital record is not a privilege to be earned over time—it is a basic right tied to identity, dignity, and autonomy.

Our position is straightforward: we will openly support legislation that restores full, unrestricted access—and we will openly oppose any legislation that falls short of that standard.

We remain committed to a future where all adopted people, without exception, are treated as full participants in their own stories.
